AUTOMATED COLONY COUNTERS
Flash & Go frees highly qualified microbiology lab staff from labor-intensive and time-consuming colony counting and antibiotic inhibition zone measurements. Additionally, its state of the art image analysis software that can read an entire Petri plate instantaneously enables labs to heavily enhance their productivity and result reproducibility. Any microbiology lab involved in colony enumeration/ inhibition zone measurement, be it industrial, clinical, environmental, or research oriented may largely benefit from the use of this tool.
Once inserted in the colony counter, plates are illuminated with a sophisticated LED lighting system, next, a picture of them is taken with a high resolution camera. Instantly, the software detects colonies or haloes according to color and records a count or measure. Other than for colony counting, it can be used in Phage plaque assays and Ames testing for enumeration. On the other hand, it can measure inhibition zones during antibiotic potency measures and antibiotic susceptibility testing (AST).

MANUAL COLONY COUNTER
Counting colonies with the unaided eye is a slow, tedious, and sight-damaging task. IUL’s colony counter eases and quickens this process through the use of LED lighting and a high quality magnifying glass. Any microbiology lab involved in colony enumeration will find this tool to be absolutely vital. Petri plates are inserted inside the colony counter where they are properly lit and magnified. Operators can tick detected colonies with a specifically devised marker, meanwhile a digital display will increase the total counts. Pointers that can directly contact colonies are also available.
High Quality Magnification: IUL’s DOT Colony Counter has a large 200 mm diameter lens with a DINx2 magnification power.
Pointer Technology: Colonies are counted by directly touching these with a pointer or by marking them on the Petri dish with a felt tip pen.
Adapted for any plate: Multiple adapters are available 60 mm, 70 mm, 80 mm, 90 mm,100 mm, 120 mm, and 150 mm.
Send colony counts to PC applications through USB: Colony counts can be sent to PC applications such as a spreadsheet. Results are sent as standard PC keyboard keystrokes.

AUTOMATED CELL COUNTER
The choice between manual and automated cell counting has long been a difficult one. Manual cell counting is accurate but often time-consuming and subject to user error. Automated cell counting is faster and less user-dependent, but disposable slide consumables can be expensive. Finally, there is a solution.
The new Corning® Cell Counter is the first automated cell counter that combines the best of both worlds. It is:
- Fast – due to cloud-based image processing
- Accurate – due to its machine learning algorithm

Three-second Cell Counts
The Corning Cell Counter can perform a single cell count in less than three seconds*. This is much faster than most automated cell-counting systems. With traditional systems, the image analysis algorithms must be processed on a relatively small onboard computer. The Corning Cell Counter, utilizing the CytoSMART™ Cloud App, can process the images in the Microsoft Azure Cloud Computing Platform. This cloud computing ability means that it can analyze the images faster than any existing onboard processer can.
The Corning Cell Counter uses a sophisticated Deep Neural Network for cell detection. This state-of-the-art image analysis software allows for optimal accuracy. When Trypan Blue is added the system can also detect cell viability. The Corning Cell Counter can detect clusters of cells, which leads to accurate cell counts of “highly concentrated samples” (up to 1 x 107 cells/mL).

This Cell Counter works with the provided counting chamber or customer supplied hemocytometers, enabling users to enjoy the benefits of automated cell counting without the cost of disposable slides.

The Cell Counter is easy to use. Simply connect the Cell Counter to your computer or tablet and start the CytoSMART Cloud App. Place the loaded counting chamber on the stage. Focus on your cells and press the Count button. The simplicity of the Cell Counter allows anyone working in your lab to easily count cells without the need of extensive training.
Accessible Data Anywhere, Anytime
The Corning® Cell Counter instantly generates a report containing the counted cell concentrations and viability and also the image of the counted sample with the counted cells (live and dead) clearly indicated.
This is an improvement over traditional automated counting systems, in which reporting is hampered by three factors:
- Onboard computers are so small that it takes a very long time to generate a report.
- Screen interface is of low quality to clearly see what has been counted as live vs. dead cells.
- Data can only be exported using a USB stick, which can be a hassle.
With the Cell Counter, the report is instantly shown on your computer and sent to the CytoSMART™ Cloud App, enabling you to look up the analyzed image and cell count on your smartphone, tablet, or computer. Since all data is saved in the CytoSMART Cloud App, you can gain insight into the health and quality of your cell culture from one experiment to the next.
